Penticton hosted the Scotties Tournament of Hearts in 2018 and Shannon was a volunteer for the ice crew so got to practice on the same ice as the professionals.

Shannon hails from a small town in Saskatchewan called Kamsack. She finds inspiration from being around energetic people and loves to travel. She also participates in a variety of indoor and outdoor sports, especially those that involve water, which is what attracted her to life in the beautiful Okanagan. Shannon and her family enjoy camping, golfing, biking, boating and wake surfing. Shannon also enjoys recreating on ice, playing competitive ladies and mixed curling.

Shannon has worked with IH for 25 years and is currently the director of medical imaging for the North and South Okanagan. She was hired as a casual medical radiation technologist and worked her way up to director.

Shannon’s key to success is she values a work-life balance, and spends her free time exploring parts of the world near and far with friends and family.

Shannon always knew that she wanted to work in health care as her family has a strong connection to the medical field. With her interest in anatomy she was able to visit the local hospital and tour the darkroom where they processed X-ray films.

“I thought it was so interesting. X-ray appealed to me as there are lots of different areas (CT, MRI, Ultrasound, Mammography, etc.) I am proud of all the experiences I’ve had in my career and I am grateful for the career and educational opportunities that allowed me ‘Room to Grow.’ It’s been exciting to be involved and collaborate with many capital equipment projects such as the PRH tower, and MRI projects in the Okanagan.”

I’m looking forward to what the future holds for medical imaging. There’ve been so many changes in my career and I look forward to being a part of what the future brings. I anticipate more automation, and the hope is to eliminate fax machines!
