Here at Interior Health, we are constantly focused on improving ourselves and finding new ways to set higher standards. In IMIT we strive for innovation and forward thinking employment opportunities; here are a few examples of our recent achievements.
There are several Interior Health facilities now benefiting from Vocera, a system that provides wearable, hands-free, voice-controlled communication via an 802.11b/g wireless LAN. With this technology, healthcare staff can get in touch with the people and answers they need, faster. Timely communication is critical to meeting patient needs, and Vocera’s instant communication allows decisions to be made immediately.
Interior Health’s environmental efforts were recently recognized with three Fortis BC ‘Conservation Excellence Awards’. These awards honour outstanding achievements in energy efficiency through sustainable choices and innovative projects. Retrofits and upgrades to several facilities have reduced energy and water consumption are passed on the added benefit of improved lighting, reduced drafts from outdoor air and better temperature control.
i-Site is an employee portal that gives confidential, electronic access to: paystubs, job postings applications, personal information updates, mileage claims and vacation/sick leave history and balances. All this can be accessed 24/7 anywhere you have internet access.
Interior Health has received a Virtual Vanguard Green Award in energy savings for its Data Centre, which has transferred the capacity of 130 servers on to just six servers using a physical to virtual solution. This saves on the physical costs of powering, cooling, maintaining and eventually replacing the original servers – a very “green” result.
Interior Health understands the importance of patient safety and has taken a lead in Canada by implementing the Quality and Patient Safety pilot project in its South Okanagan General Hospital. This project has introduced new technologies and advanced clinical information systems including Positive Patient Identification, Lab Specimen Collection, Electronic Nursing Documentation, Bedside Medication Verification, Physician Care Manager and Electronic Medical Summary to support emergency care.
