Assisted Living

Assisted Living (or "Independent Living") provides another option to those who need a little more help to live independently, but are not at the stage of requiring 24-hour, professional care in a residential facility. Interior Health, in partnership with BC Housing, is creating more than 750 assisted living units throughout the region. The concept is based on:

  • Maximizing independence.
  • Promoting personal decision-making.
  • Emphasizing choice, responsibility and dignity.

Services

Assisted living combines affordable housing with personal care and other support services such as:

  • Meals
  • Housekeeping
  • Laundry services
  • Social and recreational activities
  • 24-hour response service for safety and peace-of-mind
  • Medication reminders
  • Bathing and grooming services
  • Home-care nursing
  • Physiotherapy
  • Occupational Therapy

Housing

Assisted living residences can range from a high-rise apartment complex to a converted home; a private room with a lockable door to a private, self-contained apartment; a free-standing building or one connected to residential options such as supportive housing or a residential care facility.
