Practice Details:

    The Urban Community Medical Director is responsible for:
    a) overseeing and facilitating the quality of medical care provided in
    specified Urban Community Health Centres operated by Interior Health
    b) organizing and providing leadership and direction to the medical staff in
    relation to professional activities in the Urban Community Health Centres

    The Urban Community Medical Director (UCMD) reports to the Executive Medical Director, Community and Residential Services.

    The UCMD works within a highly collaborative framework that includes:
    • Executive Medical Directors
    • Community Integrated Health Services – Health Services Administrators,
    local Urban Community Health Centre Managers
    • Interior Health Medical Affairs, Recruitment and Retention
    • Nursing, Allied Health and the Professional Practice Office
    • Divisions of Primary Care on issues such as Human Resource planning
    and policy development to enhance the role of the Urban Community
    Health Centre’s and family physicians within Interior Health

    A. Quality
    • Promote a physician quality culture
    • Collaborate in the development and implementation of a plan for
    ongoing monitoring of medical quality
    • Lead the development of standards, protocols and policies relating to medical care
    • Participate in quality, Risk and Accreditation initiatives
    • Identify and report sentinel events that involve issues of medical care to the Executive Medical Director
    • Address issues of patient/client concern as requested

    B. Privileges, Credentialing and Performance
    • Assist in the development of credentialing and performance evaluation
    • Review and recommend the privileging of physicians working in Urban
    Community Health Centres
    • Participate in resolution of complaints regarding physician performance

    C. Physician Resource Planning and Compensation
    • Assist in the recruitment and retention of physicians
    • Collaborate with the Corporate Director, Medical Administration in :
    o Development of physician contracts
    o Review of Medical On-Call Availability Program, Retention,
    Continuing Medical Education and compensation incentives

    D. Governance
    • In collaboration with Urban Community Health Centre physicians,
    develop a role description for Urban Community Health Centre site
    medical leadership

    E. Medical Director Supervision and Performance
    • Participate in the supervision and monitoring of physicians where

    F. Education
    • Promote and advocate for effective educational policies, goals and
    objectives and Continuing Medical Education activities that contribute
    to the enhancement of physician’s skills in Primary Care
    • Eligible for The College of Family Physicians of Canada Cert. (CCFP)
    • Certificant of College of Family Physicians of Canada (CCFP)
    • Administrative and work experience in an urban setting would be an asset.
