Focusing on emergency care

Larger and medium size emergency departments in Interior Health are surveyed on continuous basis, while our smaller sites are surveyed once a year. Results of the surveys are used to identify our strengths and our areas for improvement. Anytime a patient comes to an emergency room, they may be randomly selected to receive a survey in the mail.

How are we doing?

In our most recent surveys, 84.5 per cent of respondents rated the overall quality of emergency departments in “larger” Interior Health hospitals as good, very good, or excellent. The average positive response rate for British Columbia’s larger sites was 89.3 per cent.

For medium size emergency departments in Interior Health, 88.3 per cent responded positively (BC average is 93.2 per cent) and for small sites in Interior Health, 89.9 per cent responded positively (BC average is 96.6 per cent).

These surveys took place from April 1, 2010 to March 31, 2011.
