Phase II: Floors 6 & 7 Completion

On Feb. 7, 2013, floor plans were unveiled for completing the top two floors of Polson Tower. Funding consisting of $29.6 million to complete the two floors will be shared between the Province, the North Okanagan Columbia Shuswap Regional Hospital District and the Vernon Jubilee Hospital Foundation.

As part of the project, 60 beds will be added to Polson Tower, 14 will be new and the remaining 46 will be relocated from elsewhere in the hospital. The beds will be used primarily for single-patient rooms. Previously, they were located in four-bed and double-occupancy wards. The total number of beds at the Vernon Jubilee Hospital will increase from 140 regular and eight temporary beds (148 total) to 162 beds.

The new Polson Tower has been certified LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Gold. To find out more about the LEED aspects of the building, download the VJH LEED Pamphlet and take a tour.

VJH is one of four service area hospitals within Interior Health’s network of health care facilities. It serves approximately 86,000 residents in the areas of Vernon, Armstrong, Enderby, Spallumcheen, Salmon Arm, Revelstoke and Nakusp.

The original structure of the current facility was built in 1947, with newer wings added between 1968 and 1983.
