Facility Details — South Hills Centre for Psychosocial Rehabilitation:

South Hills (SHCPR) is a community based inpatient tertiary centre for psychosocial rehabilitation that along with Hillside Centre forms the hospital like services provided as part of the tertiary mental health system for the Interior Health Authority.  As such SHCPR provides intensive rehabilitation for patients from throughout the southern interior of BC, working collaboratively with community partners throughout the region. Care is provided by a multidisciplinary team in a residential setting providing longer term stabilization and recovery oriented care for its clients.
The general hospital in Kamloops is the Royal Inland Hospital (RIH).  RIH is one of the two tertiary general hospitals for IHA and offers high-level, specialty medical care including core physician specialties, 24-hour Emergency and Trauma Services, Ambulatory and Outpatient Clinics, and Diagnostic Services. Specialty services include Acute Inpatient Psychiatry, Tertiary Inpatient and Community Psychiatric Services, non-interventional Cardiology, Infectious Disease, Neurology, Gastroenterology and others. Support services include: a full complement of diagnostic equipment, a Clinical Neurophysiology Lab and Sleep Lab, Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) and CT scan, and Echocardiography. RIH also features TPA Stroke, Stroke Research, and provincial Tertiary Neuropsychiatry Programs. RIH is the regional base for the six-person, 24-hour High Acuity Response Team (HART) that is utilized in remote emergency transport situations. Members of the Department of Anesthesia provide Anesthesia services to seven elective operating rooms, labor and delivery, a 24/7 emergency operating room and an additional, contracted, four hour evening emergency room.

This position works approximately 2.5 days per week for South Hills and the remaining time spent in the community mental health setting with the successful applicant working in the areas of need within community psychiatry, based on their professional qualifications and areas of interest and expertise.

South Hills has 40 beds, with each of two psychiatrists covering 20 of those beds. The tertiary psychiatric team in Kamloops consists of 7 psychiatrists who cover each other for vacations and other leaves as necessary. There are multiple opportunities to join existing private offices in the community as well as Community Mental Health including opportunity for Geriatric and Addictions work.

On call services are provided by a group of family physicians. Admissions are elective and occur on a planned basis given the distance that patients may have to travel to attend the Centre.
