Sometimes in life, the most challenging upbringings can create the kindest and most compassionate people; this was the case for Sheneile. Growing up in Jamaica with her older sister, Sheneile lost both her parents at a young age.
Learn more about Sheneile’s journey with IH
"Growing up without both parents was not an easy journey, and at times I wanted to kill myself when I faced hardship,” explains Sheneile.
“I am an outspoken individual who cares about others and their happiness. I am determined, kind, loving and caring. These traits are empowered by my past.”
Resilience, tenacity, hard work, and courage are what drove Sheneile to turn her hardships into success. While still in Jamaica, she got a job and put herself through the Teacher’s Education Program, graduating with a Bachelor of Education. Wanting to further her education, and experience what life had to offer, she immigrated to Canada and completed a Diploma in Human Resources. During that time, she was faced with yet another round of challenges to overcome. Sickness entered Sheneile’s life and, as a result, she had to undergo two life-altering and dangerous surgeries. The experiences she had with her grief and health pushed her to want to connect and help others who had also faced extremely difficult times.
“I got sick during studies and had to go through two surgeries where I almost died. Those experiences have changed my life, making me the person I am today.”
Working for IH as a relational security officer is a new journey for Sheneile, where she has found an outlet to connect with people who have had their own struggles and benefit from guidance and empathy. She feels that because of her experiences, she’s inspired to encourage those around her.
“My proudest moment at Interior Health was when I was talking to several individuals who came to the hospital behaving aggressively because of life situations they were going through. As I spoke to them and shared with them my past and how I overcame my hardships it changed the way they were feeling. Listening to others is very important and I find this to be my goal when reaching out to individuals.”
Outside of her role at IH, Sheneile likes to explore other interests and hobbies. She enjoys running her businesses Trendsetta Décor, an event planning and party rental supply company, and Trendsetta Kouture, which sells unique fashion clothing for men and women. Additionally, her favorite hobby outside of work is playing netball. In the future, Sheneile hopes to continue to mentor and help people in her community.
