Medical Staff Safety & Wellness
We are on a journey to embed a culture of health and safety in IH. The goal is to empower each of us to take responsibility for safety, be mindful of our physical and mental health, and remain engaged and psychologically resilient to the pressures of everyday work and life.

Medical Staff Safety and Wellbeing initiative
The Medical Staff Safety and Wellbeing initiative (through Physician Engagement) provides medical staff with a single touchpoint for safety and wellness needs.
Developed in response to the Health Authority Engagement Survey and the Physician Master Agreement - Memorandum of Agreement on Physical and Psychological Health and Safety, MSSW supports medical staff and medical leaders through various initiatives.
Physical Safety - To ensure that Medical Staff feel physically safe while they practice
Psychological Safety - Medical staff feeling psychologically safe at all times is foundational to being able to provide quality care, to being an effective team member and to being a leader in the care team.
Get started with Peer Support for Medical Staff -
In the team-based health-care environment, peer support can:
- Provide emotional and social support
- Decrease the sense of isolation
- Connect health care providers with peers who might have similar experiences
- Share practical strategies with peers in similar circumstances
- Explore community supports needed to assist with workload and pandemic specific challenges
If you want to get started with peer-to-peer support, access our Peer-to-Peer Support Guide (on the InsideNet) for medical staff. This document provides suggestions and guidelines for creating local peer support structures quickly, in addition to other local and provincial support structures already in place.
For more information on Peer Support - please visit the Medical Staff Health & Wellness page on the Medical Staff [IH] Hub.
Practice Ready for Safety - To be 'Practice Ready', Medical Staff require supports to be able to report incidents, track their testing and educational requirements, register for WorkSafe coverage, and have an overall system in place to access, track and report all of the necessary items to be safe in their setting.
For more information on Medical Staff Safety and Wellness Resources - please visit the Safety at Work page on the Medical Staff [IH] Hub.
