AI Scribes
Learn more about the AI technology that eligible medical staff at IH can use to transcribe and summarize conversations with their patients.
Overview of Artificial Intelligence (AI) scribe
AI scribe is a form of standalone AI that uses an advanced Natural Language Processing model to record, transcribe and summarize conversations between clinicians and patients and generate draft notes. The AI scribe user reviews, edits, and finalizes the note before entering it into the Electronic Health Record.
Information for medical staff
We have adopted a 'Bring Your Own AI Scribe' approach that allows eligible medical staff to self-purchase and use approved AI scribe technologies in their day-to-day work, in accordance with Interior Health requirements.
Eligible medical staff (physicians, nurse practitioners, midwives, medical residents, associate physicians and dentists) wishing to participate in Bring Your Own AI Scribe can sign up via the internal AI Scribe site or through the internal Medical Staff [IH] Hub under Clinical@IH.
Information for patients and clients
Some IH clinicians may use AI scribe technology to assist with documentation of patient or client visits. This software transcribes the conversation between the health-care provider and patient in real-time and generates a written summary, allowing the provider to focus more on the patient instead of taking notes.
Patients will be asked for their consent before the AI scribe technology is used during their visit. Find out more in the Patient Handout for AI Scribe.
