As a medical radiation technologist, Greg Kilroy’s goal is to help make patients’ hospital visits as enjoyable as possible. Even though he works every day in the operating room, emergency department and diagnostic imaging, Greg often reminds himself that patients don’t feel as comfortable in these environments as he does.
“My goal is ensure all patients feel safe and cared for, and to provide the best diagnostic images possible,” he said.

Greg feels incredibly fortunate to have worked at many Interior Health sites (Kelowna, Vernon, Salmon Arm, Revelstoke) and medical imaging centres (Kelowna Medical Imaging and Vernon Radiological Associates). At all his worksites, Greg has had fantastic coworkers and staff, made a lot of friends, and learned new skills. Most of all, his experiences have helped him grow in his professional and personal development.
My proudest moment was reading an email from a patient who told me that my interaction with them had helped calm them down on a very stressful day. It reinforced to me the importance of being positive and kind, because you never know when that smile (even if it is behind a mask) can make a difference in a patient's day.
Growing up in Powassan, Ont., Greg learned how to ride and drive horses. He would harvest trees from his family’s rural property and pull them out with horse teams; he also farmed hay (raking, discing, ploughing) with his uncle and their horse teams.
With that in mind, it’s no surprise that Greg’s favourite activities take place outdoors. This summer he hiked in Yoho National Park and biked in the Kootenays, and he’s looking forward to backcountry skiing the Rossland Range this winter. (His goal is to descend the Birthday Chutes!). Greg also recently started CrossFit, and sneaks in sessions before his shifts.
“I feel so lucky to be able to work and play in the same place," he said. "It was a goal of mine to end up in a mountain town, and I feel so privileged to be able to ride and run from my door, and walk to all my favourite spots in Rossland.”
