Acute Psychiatric Services

Provides short-term psychiatric assessment and follow-up for patients presenting to the emergency department or who have recently been discharged from an inpatient psychiatry unit.

An inpatient psychiatric unit is available that provides a structured therapeutic program (including assessment and treatment) to individuals suffering from acute or severe psychiatric illness.

The program is available as a resource service to community agencies, general practitioners and families of persons affected by mental illness. Upon admission, patients will be triaged by a mental health nurse.

Treatment is provided by an interdisciplinary team of psychiatrists, nurses, social workers, occupational therapists, and pharmacists.
