Is a referral required? Talk to your doctor or Nurse Practitioner about a referral. There are two screening tests available for colon cancer – the fecal immunochemical test (FIT) and colonoscopy. The FIT is for average risk individuals, and colonoscopy is for those at a higher risk of colon cancer.
If screening is right for you, you will be enrolled in the provincial Colon Screening Program when you pick up your FIT at a lab or when your doctor refers you for colonoscopy.
Are there eligiblity requirements? All women and men ages 50 to 74 without symptoms.
Is there a cost? This program is publicly funded. |

As a step towards reconciliation, Interior Health acknowledges the land that we live, work, and play on as the traditional territories of the Dakelh Dene, Ktunaxa, Nlaka’pamux, Secwepemc, St’at’imc, Syilx and Tsilhqot’in peoples. It is with humility that we continue to strengthen our relationships with the First Nation, Métis, and Inuit peoples of the interior.
