The holiday spirit: Tips for drinking in moderation this season

December 14, 2022
Sharing some holiday cheer with family and friends can be done in a healthy way by drinking in moderation.

As the holidays approach, many will be coming together to celebrate with family and friends. Celebrations often focus on food and sometimes alcohol. It can be easy to overindulge.

While enjoying spirits can be a pleasurable part of holiday celebrations, alcohol consumption may be detrimental to health. According to the World Health Organization, alcohol is a causal factor in more than 200 disease and injury conditions including multiple cancers, damage to the liver, brain, and cardiovascular system.

Harmful use of alcohol is associated with dependence, violent and aggressive behavior, intimate partner violence, sexual violence, and impaired decision-making or actions, which can lead to increased risk of injury or even death.
