About Elkford Urgent and Primary Care Centre (UPCC)
The Elkford Urgent and Primary Care Centre (UPCC), located at the Elkford Health Centre, provides team-based care for non-emergency health concerns to individuals in Elkford and surrounding communities.
If you have a health emergency that requires immediate care, call 911 or present at the Sparwood or Fernie emergency department.
Care at the Elkford UPCC is available for concerns such as:
- Minor injuries
- Sprains and strains
- Minor infections (e.g., UTI)
- Mild fever
- Minor cuts, wounds, or skin conditions
- Suture removal, wart removal, ear flush
- STI treatment
All patients arriving at the Elkford UPCC are triaged by a registered nurse upon arrival and referred to the most appropriate health-care provider.
Not all patients will receive care from a physician or nurse practitioner and some patients may be directed to return the following day or be provided with self-care instructions. If you are deemed emergent, UPCC staff will dial 911 or direct you to Sparwood or Fernie emergency departments.
The health-care team is available, virtually or in-person, to provide care for your health issues. Patients may see one or more of the following health professionals depending on your care needs:
- Family physician (in-person or virtual)
- Nurse practitioner (in-person or virtual)
- Registered nurse
- Social worker
