Residents of Summerland Seniors Village are going home following the evacuation related to the Bald Range wildfire.
Residents were temporarily relocated on Saturday, Aug. 8 to alternative sites due to risks associated with the fire.
Interior Health has worked closely with its contracted partner, West Coast Senior Housing Management, as well as with families, caregivers, and community partners to support the safe and successful return of these residents, which will be complete today. We are grateful for the dedication of all those who helped care for residents throughout the evacuation and repatriation process.
Interior Health will be communicating directly with families and caregivers of residents at Dr. Andrew Pavillion this week regarding plans for repatriation of their loved ones. Recovery and deep-cleaning efforts are well underway at Dr. Andrew Pavillion and the Summerland Community Health Centre, both of which sustained significant smoke damage during the fire. Updates on repatriation of residents and the anticipated opening of the Summerland Health and Wellness Centre will also be shared with the public.
Interior Health continues to monitor wildfire activity and works closely with municipalities, regional districts and the BC Wildfire Service to support the safety of patients, clients, staff and physicians.
