Castlegar and District Community Health Centre

Castlegar and District Community Health Centre

We offer practical support to aboriginal persons utilizing Interior Health services through hospital liaison and referral processes. Our purpose is to provide a communication linkage between the patient, family, community and health care provider, assisting the care team with health care, mental health, substance use and discharge planning.

Provides non-clinical services and is an adjunct to health care staff. Our goal is to improve access and ensure the aboriginal patients' health care experience is culturally safe and inclusive. We aim to ensure the aboriginal patient understands the hospital cultural/processes and health care staff understand the unique needs of the aboriginal patient.

The Aboriginal Patient Navigator (APN) service will work with patients who are visiting from other areas of the province. This service may be available in other areas, contact an APN to learn if it is available in your area.

Aboriginal Patient Navigators, who are located in Mental Health & Substance Use (MHSU) locations (Kamloops & Williams Lake), will help to connect you or your family to the right MHSU service (counselling, substance use services and withdrawal management (detox)) and support access to cultural resources where requested.
