Meet Dominique, recruiter, nurse practitioners
Nestled in the beautiful hills of the Central Okanagan is the vibrant city of Kelowna. Known for its award-winning vineyards, pristine lakes and scenic views, this central hub of B.C.'s Interior holds a special place in Dominique Fellhauer's heart.
Having spent her formative years in this delightful community, she came to recognize that it possessed all the elements she desired in a home. This insight motivated her to establish roots and make the Okanagan her permanent home.
Beyond its noteworthy growth, Kelowna's allure lies in the numerous opportunities it presents, making it an increasingly attractive destination for young individuals seeking the benefits of city amenities in a smaller urban setting.
Dominique sees Kelowna as a natural playground offering a variety of year-round activities, such as recreational sports, hiking, biking, snowboarding and swimming. Engaging in these activities not only occupies her leisure hours, but also reflects her profound affection for the dynamic lifestyle that the Okanagan generously provides.
When Dominique isn’t immersing herself in the vibrant activities and amenities offered by the Okanagan, she’s likely embarking on an adventure to a far-away place. Her genuine love for exploration and travel is perfectly reflected in her favourite quote, “Life is a journey of discovery.” She's always on the lookout for the next exciting experience—it’s a way of life for her. Dominique’s wanderlust spirit eagerly anticipates the thrill of discovering places and cultures.
Her recruitment career journey
Motivated by a strong desire to assist others, Dominique's career began to take shape during her studies for a Bachelor of Business Administration in Management. Recognizing her keen interest in working with people, she decided to broaden her expertise by obtaining a human resources certificate.
Her professional journey underscores her commitment to continuous growth, expertise and a genuine passion for connecting with and supporting individuals in their career aspirations.
Meaningful connections and rewarding results
Dominique joined Interior Health (IH) initially as a recruitment assistant and has progressively advanced to her current role as the recruiter for nurse practitioners.
Her primary responsibilities are collaborating with the nurse practitioner team to lead recruitment efforts, sourcing qualified candidates to fill important job vacancies. Her goal goes beyond simply filling roles: she strives to create a positive and memorable experience for every candidate, leaving a lasting impact on their journey.
I enjoy making a difference that impacts the lives within the communities where we live and play.
Dominique's dedication to excellence and building meaningful connections reflects her commitment to improving the recruitment experience for both candidates and IH. Inspired by the profound impact of working with people, Dominique's passion lies in offering unwavering support, and guiding individuals towards achieving their dream careers.
Her role is more than just a job: it's a personal mission to contribute positively to the lives and aspirations of those she interacts with. The strong enthusiasm she possesses for every new member she brings into the team culminates in the most rewarding aspect of her job—officially offering a job to the successful candidate. This part of her job holds a unique place in her heart, as she can share in the excitement and sense of achievement the candidates feel when they realize they've secured a new career journey.
I feel proud to contribute to the ongoing advances at IH and look forward to meeting the next wave of difference makers.
Advice for future applicants
A piece of advice that Dominique offers for those interested in a career with Interior Health is to carefully review the job qualifications. The recruitment team diligently reviews every application, prioritizing a thorough and human-centered approach. Unlike automated systems, each application receives careful consideration, ensuring a more personal process for both the applicant and the recruiter.
Applicants should ensure that their resume and a cover letter are specifically tailored to the position they’re applying for. Our career opportunities often see many applications, so if you don't succeed the first time, don't be discouraged. Keep refining your application, build connections and continue applying. Remember, success might take a bit of time, but dedication and continuous effort can lead to positive outcomes in the long run.
