Born and raised in Kamloops, Kayleigh describes herself as honest, outgoing, adventurous, loving, compassionate and loyal – traits that contribute greatly to the work she does as a nursing unit clerk at Royal Inland Hospital.
Growing up with medical issues and having numerous surgeries led Kayleigh to her career in the medical field. Kayleigh was a lifeguard for some time in her twenties, which demonstrates how she’s always been drawn to helping people. “I find the medical field very interesting and to be able to learn new things every day makes me happy.”

Kayleigh also finds happiness enjoying time being active outdoors with her family. “Baseball is huge in my family. My husband, son, daughter and I all play and watch baseball. We love camping, hunting, fishing, spending time at any beach (we have a bearded dragon whom we take every time), and paddle boarding.”
One of Kayleigh’s proudest moments involved a practicum she completed at the start of her career at the Abbotsford Hospital in 2012 in their emergency department. “The traumas weirdly were my attraction. I loved how busy it was, and the cases that would come in.”
I’m proud of myself for the knowledge I’ve gained over my 10 years. I have seen babies being born, post-ops, pre-ops, mental health, maternity, respiratory, cardio, neurology, renal, intensive care, and probably a lot more. Although we’ve had tough years, I’m proud to stand behind all the good and the positivity at RIH.
Recently Kayleigh accepted a new line in the X-ray department at RIH, demonstrating her commitment to the role and expanding her knowledge.
Once her two kids are a little older she may venture back into the wards/shift work. She is really interested in the neurology floor in the new surgical tower.
“If I happen to become a nurse, the OR would be my goal. I really do hope there is more to come for myself and other unit clerks. We are very knowledgeable and handy to have at IH. I want to do as much as I can for my company, my coworkers, and patients.”

“I nominate Diana Phillips as she always goes beyond any expectations. She is very good at her job and always wants to make people happy. Diana has come in during the Christmas season in a blow-up dinosaur suit (infection control approved, of course), in a unicorn blow-up suit for Valentine’s Day, and in a blow-up Easter bunny suit at Easter to hand out goodies. I cannot explain how many smiles and laughs we have received, and all out of Diana's pocket. She has also brought in little mini ducks and she has tubed them throughout the hospital randomly and anonymously.” - Kayleigh Lowey
