Tanis Rosa pursued a career as a volunteer services coordinator because it allows her to work at the intersection of service, inclusion and purpose while supporting others to use their skills, time and compassion in ways that make a real difference in the community.

“I believe that people want to contribute meaningfully when give the opportunity, support and sense of belonging to do so,” says Tanis.

Being a volunteer coordinator is especially meaningful to Tanis because it allows her to contribute to something bigger than herself and gives her a sense of shared purpose.

Tanis credits the volunteer work she’s done with school parent advisory committees, minor hockey and youth soccer helping get her to where she is today.

Her experiences taught her the value of teamwork, community and creating spaces where people feel included and supported. They shaped her understanding of what it means to bring people together and inspired her to pursue a career where she can help others have the same meaningful experiences.

“Those early opportunities to contribute sparked my passion for building relationships and fostering connection, which continues to guide my work today,” she shares.

Tanis works to create environments where people feel valued, welcomed and empowered. That sense of shared impact is what continues to inspire Tanis in her work.

Tanis supports volunteers through their shifts, ensuring they feel prepared, valued and connected while also responding to the needs of the hospital and its staff. She balances helping volunteers have meaningful, positive experiences with ensuring the broader organization runs smoothly.

This dynamic allows her to foster strong relationships, create inclusive spaces, and contribute to the overall functioning and well-being of the community she serves.

Tanis’s proudest moment at Interior Health has been bringing people together in meaningful ways while building strong, trusting relationships. She is proud of the connections she’s helped create—between volunteers, staff and the broader community.

Seeing relationships grow and collaboration strengthen reminds me of the impact that intentional connection and inclusion can have, and it reinforces why this work is so important to me.”

Outside of work, she loves spending time with her family. Sharing those moments of connection and fun, whether it’s cheering from the stands at hockey game or on the sidelines at a soccer match, brings her so much happiness.

Tanis also enjoys being outdoors, especially spending time at the beach, or doing creative, relaxing crafts like quilting. These activities bring her joy, balance and a sense of grounding, while reminding her of the importance of community, patience and care—values she carries into her work every day.

Tanis is looking forward to growing her volunteer program and building deeper, more meaningful relationships within the community. On a personal note, she’s excited to spend the summer on the Island with her family, enjoying the outdoors and creating lasting memories.
