The number of measles cases in North America is increasing, including reported cases in B.C. Measles is a highly contagious disease that can have serious complications in some people. It can lead to pneumonia or inflammation of the brain with children aged four to eight who are not up to date on their measles vaccination being at a higher risk of infection.
Getting the measles vaccine is the best way to prevent getting and spreading measles. Two doses of a measles-containing vaccine is almost 100 per cent effective in preventing measles disease and the prevention lasts for a lifetime.
