Since she started working at the Nicola Valley Hospital and Health Centre (NVH) one-and-a-half years ago, social worker Natasha Thys has quietly made it her mission to ensure no patient in need leaves the hospital without proper clothing.

“I like people,” says Natasha of why she started collecting clothing for hospital staff to distribute. “I like helping people and I like to just be that person who makes somebody’s day, even if it’s just a pair of socks.”

Emergency services will be unavailable from 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 26 to 8 a.m., Thursday, March 27, 2025. Patients can access emergency care at Royal Inland Hospital in Kamloops during this time. 

All other inpatient services will continue at Lillooet Hospital.

People living with complex mental-health and substance-use challenges in Kamloops will soon have access to robust health and social supports in housing, with 20 new complex-care homes planned for the community.

“This project is part of our work to make communities safer for everyone by delivering real solutions to address the complex challenges people face,” said Ravi Kahlon, Minister of Housing and Municipal Affairs. “By providing a safe place to live with enhanced supports, individuals facing complex challenges can find a pathway to hope and healing.”

Around the world, and closer to home, providing water for families for drinking, cooking, washing, bathing and hygiene usually falls on women’s shoulders. And inadequate access to water, sanitation and hygiene disproportionately affects women and girls.

International Transgender Day of Visibility (TDOV), observed annually on March 31, is dedicated to celebrating transgender individuals and raising awareness about the discrimination they face worldwide.

TDOV was founded by transgender activist Rachel Crandall in 2009 to celebrate the lives and contributions of transgender individuals. Unlike Transgender Day of Remembrance, which mourns lives lost to violence, TDOV is a celebration of life, resilience and progress.
