Take Our Kids to Work
Take Our Kids to Work day is a national, single day job shadow experience for grade nine (or equivalent) students that allows them to attend the place of work of a parent, relative or friend for a learning opportunity. Interior Health is proud to support this event.

About Take Our Kids to Work day
Take Our Kids to Work day is an annual event where you get the amazing opportunity to spend the day at your parent, friend, or relative's workplace, observing professionals in action. This program is sponsored by most B.C. high schools and typically takes place on the first Wednesday in November each year.
It's all about helping you get a glimpse into different careers and empowering you to make informed decisions for your future. And guess what? We've got plenty of awesome opportunities to explore the diverse world of health care within our organization!
How students can get involved
Here's how you can get involved:
- Your school will provide you with all the necessary information and permission forms a few weeks prior to the day
- Once you have the green light from both your school and your parent or guardian, it's time to approach the employee you'd like to shadow and make your request
Employee's next steps after receiving a request
Once a student approaches an Interior Health employee with a request to shadow them, the employee must submit the request as far in advance as possible to their manager or supervisor; this will ensure a a seamless experience.
The employee's manager or supervisor will review and either approve or deny the request based on the profession or work area.
Safety first, after all!
Please be aware that not all areas within Interior Health can accommodate students for Take Our Kids to Work day, but we'll do our best to allow for students to have an amazing experience where possible!
