On March 4, 2025, Kelowna General Hospital (KGH) had the privilege of hosting 115 grade 10 to 12 students from School District 23 for an exciting and informative Careers in Health Care Day. This event offered students the unique opportunity to explore the many diverse and rewarding career paths available in the health care sector.
KGH inspires students with Careers in Health Care Day
Inspiring students with personal stories and career journeys
Lindsay Taberner, executive director, KGH Clinical Operations, welcomed the students, encouraging them to dive in and actively participate in the day’s activities. She highlighted the importance of exploring a range of professions within health care and how each role contributes to the well-being of the community.
Throughout the day, 17 staff members from Interior Health (IH) representing 12 different professions shared their personal stories and career journeys. These professionals not only detailed their roles within IH but also provided valuable insights into their personal career journeys, noting the educational backgrounds and pathways they took to get to where they are today.
KGH Volunteer Services also attended, engaging students and offering information about how to get involved in the community through the youth volunteer program, which allows students to become familiar with the health-care environment while making a meaningful impact at KGH.
A special thank you goes to the KGH Foundation, whose continued support made the event even more memorable. In addition to generously funding the pizza lunch, they also took the time to speak with students about the crucial role the KGH Foundation plays in supporting health-care initiatives in our community.
