We Are IH: Meet Anna Meyers

We Are IH is a new recognition campaign to spotlight our people in a real way – through pictures and stories that allow their authenticity to shine through! Each month, four Interior Health employees or medical staff will be featured through our News@IH website and our weekly In the Loop Roundup email newsletter. 

Currently a Program Coordinator for Staff Recognition at Cariboo Memorial Hospital, Anna has been with IH for eight years.

Born and raised in Williams Lake, British Columbia, in the ancestral area of Tsilhqot'in (Chil-co-teen)/ Chilcotin, young Anna was a happy, outgoing and kind-hearted girl who loved to show appreciation to loved ones. As the Program Coordinator for Staff Recognition at Interior Health located at Cariboo Memorial Hospital, the growth of her new role over the past year is a reflection of her genuine personality and her love of giving and showing appreciation for others' contributions.

As a goal-oriented person herself, Anna understands the importance of recognition and showing appreciation to staff at Interior Health. Currently leading the new staff recognition initiative, We Are IH, Anna’s generosity shines through as she works hard to help create a workplace where everyone feels appreciated.

"Always do one per cent better every day and always be kind," is Anna's favourite quote.

Inspired daily by the tremendous efforts and dedication of staff at IH, Anna continues to pave the way to growing staff recognition. In light of the current pandemic, she has been resourceful and innovative in staff recognition. One of her proudest moments at IH is organizing the Long Term Service Awards and this year Anna has pivoted to a virtual platform and continues to ensure that Interior Health employees are feeling appreciated for their hard work and dedication.

With a love of traveling, this year has looked a bit different for Anna and her loved ones, so when she hasn’t been working she has been out camping in the beautiful outdoors of British Columbia. Those who work alongside Anna sincerely appreciate her valuable contribution to the organization and her helpful and kind demeanour. We appreciate you so much Anna and are thankful to have you a part of Interior Health!

The much-anticipated Cariboo Memorial Hospital expansion will improve access to many types of health-care services for people in Williams Lake and throughout the Cariboo-Chilcotin.

  • Budget: $366.5 million
  • Current phase: Construction
  • Scope: The CMH redevelopment project includes an addition to the existing hospital as well as renovations to the existing facility. People will have increased access to health-care services as the expanded hospital will include:
    • A new emergency department with 23 treatment spaces, an increase of 12; two trauma treatment bays; a seclusion room; an ambulance carport and a separate public entrance
    • A new medical/surgical inpatient unit with 36 beds, an increase of 16
    • A new mental-health and substance-use inpatient unit with eight single-occupancy rooms and a patient seclusion room
    • An expanded ambulatory care and oncology unit with 16 renovated treatment spaces
    • An expanded maternity and women's health unit with four single-occupancy rooms for maternity care, two nursery rooms and two women's health beds in private rooms. The maternity area will allow parents to stay in the same room with their babies until they are ready to go home.
    • An expanded pharmacy, providing additional space for pharmacists and pharmacy technicians
    • An interfaith sacred space, which will allow for traditional cultural and healing practices
    • 71 new parking stalls

Cariboo Memorial Hospital Redevelopment Project Update: August 2024

The first phase of redevelopment at Cariboo Memorial Hospital in Williams Lake has reached the third floor, which will be a 36-bed medical unit, adding capacity to provide great care to people in the region.

What does the CMH redevelopment include?

The CMH redevelopment project includes an addition to the hospital as well as renovations to the existing facility.

  • The addition will be three storeys, plus a basement, and approximately 9,300 square metres (100,100 square feet)
  • The redevelopment will add 25 inpatient beds, for a total of 53
  • Phase 1 of the project is expected to be complete in late 2026 and Phase 2 of the project is expected to be complete in early 2029

People will have increased access to health services including:

Construction will happen in two phases.

The Cariboo Memorial Hospital (CMH) Redevelopment project will happen in two phases. Phase 1, which includes the addition, began in April 2023 and is expected to be complete in fall 2026. Phase 2, which includes renovations to the existing hospital, is planned to begin in fall 2026 and is scheduled to be complete in early 2029.

Designed with input from local Indigenous communities, employees and physicians, a new three-storey addition will be built at CMH that will be welcoming to people of all cultures and backgrounds. Once the new addition is open, renovations will take place in the existing hospital.
