We Are IH: Registered nurse celebrates 32 years of service

Throughout her career as a registered nurse, and after spending 18 years as a care aide at Overlander Extended Care, Marilyn built her experience in acute care working on the 6 South surgical floor/High Observation Unit at the Royal Inland Hospital (RIH) in Kamloops. In this role, Marilyn supported patients in brief but severe episodes of illness, for cases that resulted from a disease, trauma, or during recovery from surgery.

Marilyn says the mentorship she’s received, the camaraderie, and working with a devoted team of nurses and staff at Interior Health is what inspired her dedication to her career, and also why she decided to join BCNU as a Joint Occupational Health & Safety Representative.

Marilyn is now looking forward to a few more years working in home and community health, caring for palliative clients and vulnerable citizens, before retiring soon, where she looks forward to spending her time at the lake. 

Born and raised in Kamloops, Marilyn fell in love with horses at a young age and began collecting Breyer model horses at 11 years old. These popular items come in all shapes and sizes, which allows collectors to customize the horses to their own preferences. Marilyn has 55 Breyer model horses and says that over the years, these items have become very valuable and are now collectables.

When she’s not working, you can find Marilyn paddle boarding, boating, fishing, camping, baking, and spending time with her husband, Clint, their daughters, Jessica and Caitlin, and their red heeler named Ozzy.
