UK nurse moving to Vernon looks forward to new chapter

Phina celebrates a milestone in her nursing career

Years before she applied to Interior Health (IH), Chinenye Uwakwe - known as Phina to her friends - was visiting Canada with her family when her wonderful trip took an unexpected turn. A family friend’s child became ill and needed immediate medical attention.

Suddenly finding herself in a Vancouver emergency room, Phina watched how the nurses expertly navigated the situation, caring for both the child and the worried family.

“I remember telling one of the ER nurses that when I eventually become a nurse, I hoped to provide that same level of care and reassurance to others,” Phina recalls. “The nurses were very inspiring and the experience left a lasting impression.”

Now, Phina is preparing to relocate to B.C. with her family to begin the next chapter of her career with IH’s team in Vernon, turning the page in a career journey that has already spanned several continents.
