New interventional radiology suite now open at Kelowna General Hospital

Toxic algae bloom advisory lifted at N’Kwala (Nicola) Lake

Interior Health is removing the toxic algae bloom advisory for N’Kwala (Nicola) Lake. 

Recent water samples taken by BC Parks at Monck Park have tested negative for the presence of cyanobacterial toxin. Lake users should use caution if they see signs of an algae bloom. It is best to avoid contact with an algae bloom and if contact is made, rinse your body with clean water. 

First Nations Health Authority continues to monitor the northeast side of the lake as well as Spaxomin (Douglas) and Chapperon lakes.

Temporary service interruption at South Okanagan General Hospital emergency department

Oliver and area residents are advised of temporary changes to emergency department hours at South Okanagan General Hospital (SOGH) due to unexpected limited physician availability.

From 6 p.m. tonight, Sunday, July 30, to 8 a.m. Monday, July 31, emergency services will be unavailable and patients can access care at Penticton Regional Hospital.

Toxins in algae blooms at N’Kwala (Nicola), Spaxomin (Douglas) and Chapperon lakes

Interior Health is advising people who use N’Kwala (Nicola) Lake, Spaxomin (Douglas) Lake and/or Chapperon Lake that there is a risk of exposure to cyanobacterial toxin due to the presence of blue-green algae blooms on these lakes.

Water samples taken on July 26 from each lake tested positive for the cyanobacterial toxin. Cyanobacteria can produce several types of toxin that can be poisonous to people, pets and livestock.
