Name: Nida Farooqui (she/her/hers)
Job Title: Communications Consultant, Digital Health
Length of Service: 9 months
Worksite: Kelowna Community Health & Services Centre (CHSC)
Community: Kelowna
Ancestral Territory: syilx
Favourite Quote / Advice to live by: "To be yourself in a world that is constantly trying to make you something else is the greatest accomplishment." - Ralph Waldo Emerson
Nida feels grateful to live on the ancestral territory of the syilx Nation where she has lived since June 2024, and from 2020 to 2023.
“To me, reconciliation means to be aware of and grateful for the Indigenous communities,” she says. “It's bringing my whole self to connect, listen and learn from the values and rich history rooted in Indigenous teachings.”
Nida has always loved working with and supporting people—especially when it comes to their well-being. She believes two essential pieces that support one's well-being are education and health.
After spending close to a decade of her career dedicated to higher education, she felt compelled to explore health care and use her communications and storytelling skills at Interior Health (IH) as a new way to support people.
Learn more about Nida’s journey with IH
As a communications consultant for Digital Health (DH) and human resources technology initiatives, Nida is part of three different teams and has the rare opportunity to contribute to multiple portfolios across the organization: Corporate and Digital Content, Digital Health and Human Resources.
“Each team is wonderful,” says Nida. “Each project is unique—which means I have the opportunity, every day, to consistently learn and grow.”
She finds herself continually inspired by the diverse projects and people she meets, the empowerment she receives from leadership, and the support and team spirit she gets to experience every day.
For Nida, no two days are the same. She can be found reviewing story submissions and coordinating content for internal IH newsletters—In the Loop and Manager Minute. She also finds herself reviewing DH notifications or project memos, contributing to communications plans, or ensuring the right review process and logistical details are in place for timely delivery of projects.
She often meets with internal partners to support new or ongoing initiatives. Through all of her work one thing remains constant for her: the goal of delivering the right message to the right people at the right time.

It’s difficult for Nida to single out one proudest or most memorable moment at IH, because, as she puts it, “it's more of an ongoing feeling of contentment and purpose in the work I do at IH.”
That sense of fulfillment is present whether she’s supporting a province-wide human resources initiative, helping DH partners feel confident and supported during projects like the MEDITECH 2.2 upgrade, or contributing to and being available to support her internal communications team.
Nida completed a Bachelor of Commerce in Marketing at the University of Alberta. She began her career at a non-profit organization in Edmonton as a youth development program coordinator. “As a new grad, I was fortunate to gain rich experience in this position—from chairing a volunteer committee to managing marketing, event planning, reporting and writing,” she shares.
That path led her to an internship with the Government of Alberta, where she coordinated a provincial initiative to help high school students explore their post-secondary options. In this position, Nida discovered a deep connection to the education sector. She went on to serve in a range of communications roles at a community college in Edmonton.

In the fall of 2020, Nida embraced a new chapter and relocated to Kelowna while continuing to work remotely with the college in Alberta. Before joining IH, Nida also supported social media efforts at Kelowna International Airport.
“For a long time, I felt a calling to pursue a communications position in health care. My heart was yearning to contribute to such an important and deeply human sector. Guided by my faith in Islam, which teaches the value of service, compassion and intention, I saw this path as a way to live out those principles. Today, I am so honoured and feel extremely thankful to live my dream while serving others.
Nida loves spending time with family and friends, whether she’s hosting visitors, planning a fun weekend outdoors, hiking, or relaxing with a nice cup of tea and good conversation. She’s really looking forward to a fall getaway with her cousin to a cabin near Kamloops where they’re planning to go horseback riding, soak up the autumn scenery, and enjoy some quality time together. “It’ll be so nice to be surrounded by the calm and beauty of nature.”

Nida is also a poet and she loves capturing moments of gratitude, especially being present with the beauty of nature and the kindness of people. She’s shared her poetry a few times in community gatherings in Kelowna.
I love...
I love the way the light of the earth enters my home...my heart...my being.
I love the smiles and joy—the innocence—of the littles in our lives.
I love freshly brewed coffee in the morning. There is something soothing...expected about it.
I love connections. Conversations. The union of reflections.
I love the sound of birds that tell us, I'm still here, you're still here. We are given another day.
I love new bedsheets and mopped floors. Cleaning one's home is like clearing the mind.
I love when an idea becomes a discussion becomes energy becomes reality.
I love family dinners, cousins, elders - together. Everyone in one space at one time.
I love the love of aunties. One of my aunts once told me: You will never understand the love of an aunty until you become one. She was right.
I love when a gentle breeze touches your face on a hot summer day. And the unspoken, immediate sense of gratitude.
I love the concept of servitude. Serving others, being of service. What a humbling opportunity we are given in this life.
