Willie Sellars, Williams Lake First Nation Chief and IH board member

Name: Chief Willie Sellars (he/him/his)
Job Title: IH board member and Chief of Williams Lake First Nation
Years of Service: Six years
Worksite: Williams Lake First Nation
Community:  Williams Lake
Ancestral Territory: Secwépemc Nation

For Secwépemc Nation Chief Willie Sellars, a father of five, life is all about finding balance. “I have five kids and they are the centre of my universe” he says.

Elected to Williams Lake First Nation (WLFN) council at the age of 24 in 2008, Willie was one of the youngest elected councillors in the council’s history. After serving 10 years, in 2018 he was elected as the Chief of his community and is currently in his second term.

Willie was welcomed to the Board of Directors for Interior Health (IH) six years ago.

He credits hockey, golf and pow wow dancing being a big part of finding his balance.

“I am the Chief of my community and with the title comes additional stress so incorporating ceremony and prayer into my daily activities and making sure I do the things that make me happy is important,” he says.
