Learn more about Teresa LeBlanc’s journey with IH
Teresa was originally drawn to health care by a desire to work with the elderly. She previously worked at Overlander long-term care home, but she has also worked in maternity and women’s health at 3 West and 5 South at Royal Inland Hospital.
As a nursing unit clerk, Teresa’s typical daily tasks may include sending out many lists of residents, financials, admissions and discharges, answering phones, ordering stock and greeting visitors. She especially enjoys helping new residents settle in at their new home and making sure their family members have all the information they need to have peace of mind that their loved one will be well taken care of.
Every day, Teresa chats with residents to find out what they need, and then assists with things like their personal email or making an appointment. With her calm disposition, Teresa has found that talking things through with residents and supporting them with these types of tasks helps to lower their anxiety and create a more cheerful mood.
“The most important thing to me is to see our residents and our nurses happy.”
In her spare time, Teresa is an avid reader. She loves a good horror story, as well as true crime, with Stephen King being one of her favourite authors. She also enjoys surfing the ’net—mostly social media sites such as Facebook and Instagram.
Teresa lives with her cat, Jack. He’s an 11-year-old white tabby who has never been outside but loves sunbathing and bird watching from the windowsill.
“He chatters at the birds,” laughs Teresa. “I think he’d like one to come over and play!”
